About Kilkenny Road Community Childcare and Family Centre Service

Given the increasing demand for affordable childcare in Carlow, St. Catherine’s were looking for an opportunity to increase our childcare services. Working with Kilkenny Carlow Education and Training Board (KCETB) and the Carlow County Childcare Committee we were delighted to open our new Community Childcare service in the Kilkenny Road Community Childcare and Family Centre in September 2014.

As with our service in St. Catherine’s we are committed to providing a service in the Kilkenny Road Centre that focuses on the individual needs of the child and providing a warm and welcoming environment for children and their parents and carers.

Our Staff

Our staff are our biggest asset and we promote and encourage their professional development and on-going training. All our childcare staff are fully experienced and qualified to a minimum of QQI Level 5. The majority of our staff are qualified at levels 6 and 7 while we also have staff qualified with a Level 8 in Early Childhood Education and Care. Our Childcare Manager, Judith Byrne has over 15 years experience in Childcare. Both Judith and our Assistant Manager, Pauline Byrne have the Level 8 Early Childhood Education and Care Degree.

St. Catherine’s is fortunate in that our staff turnover is virtually zero ensuring our children get to build long term relationships with their carers. All of our Childcare team, including staff, students and volunteers are Garda Vetted prior to commencing in our service.

Our Facilities and Curriculum

Our childcare services are committed to providing your child with positive play and learning experiences while in our care. Our play-based programme is influenced by the Síolta Quality Framework as well as the principles and themes of the Aístear Curriculum, including wellbeing, identity and belonging, communicating and exploring and thinking.

Our rooms are set out in a range of themes and interests including the following:

  • Block Area
  • Dramatic Play Area
  • Toys & Games Area
  • Art Area
  • Library Area
  • Discovery Area
  • Sand and Water Area
  • Music and Movement Area

The daily routine of each room involves planning activities that cover all aspects of child development including their physical, social, emotional and language development.
